The mission of St. James United Church is to be an inclusive and affirming community that gathers to nurture faith, celebrate God's unconditional love, live out God's grace and justice, in and beyond St James.
Statement of Faith
We the people of St. James United Church declare publicly our commitment to creating a Community where all people are welcome regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, differing abilities, ethnic background or economic circumstance.
All persons are welcome to take part in every aspect of church life, such as membership, leadership, spiritual growth, and the celebrations of life passages, sacraments and marriage.
We celebrate the richness that diversity brings to our church, even as it challenges us. We pray for God's spirit to guide us as disciples of Jesus as we work for reconciliation and justice, in partnership with others, for all persons in both church and society.
About Our Staff
Ministry
Rev. Laura Sundberg has been at St. James since July 1999. She loves movies, creative movement, travel, and cycling. Peacemaking is also a passion. Worship, education, crisis ministry and working with children are her greatest joys. These days her past times include parenting, children's entertainment, Chinese culture and Mandarin, watching gymnastics, going to playgrounds and swimming with her adopted 5 year old daughter. Laura spent 3 months with Ecumenical Accompaniment Program for Palestine and Israel in 2004 as part of a World Council of Churches peace program. She attended Emmanuel College in Toronto, graduating with a M.Div. in 1993.
